You are supposed to grow out of this. Everybody says so. Somewhere between eight and twelve it is meant to stop being real and start being a thing you mention at parties.
It did not stop being real. It just got comfortable. It waits until things are going well, which is thoughtful in its way, and it never announces itself because it has never needed to.
