The Injured Party
Grievance, the case you keep bringing, and the empty courtroom.
- Figure
- The one bringing the case. Never once the defendant.
- Pattern
- The story where you never did anything.
- What it protects
- A plaintiff is never on trial.
- What it costs
- Nobody else is in the courtroom. The verdict is yours alone.
- The move
- Read your own testimony as the defense would.
- ON FILE
- Forty folders, stamped, all filed by the claimant.
In each position
HOW IT STARTED
Something was done to you. You wrote it up. You left your part out of the write-up.
HOW IT'S GOING
You are presenting the case again. The courtroom is empty. The file is very thick.
HOW IT ENDS, ALLEGEDLY
You will say nobody listened. The room was empty because you never named a defendant.
Three questions
- Who is the defendant in the story you tell most?
- What would the defense say?
- Who else is in the room when you give your testimony?

A sample file
This office is in possession of forty folders, each one stamped, each one filed by the same claimant against a different party. The office has read all forty. In every one of them things happened to you, and in none of them did you do anything at all, which is a very strong position to hold. A plaintiff is never on trial. xxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxx xxxx xxx xxxxxxx xxxxxx xxx xxx xxxx xxxxx xxxx xxxxxx xxxx xx xxx xxxxxx The office filed a grievance of its own this spring, against a stapler, and left out which end it had been pressing. The office notes that the stamp has been worn down to the handle. The courtroom is empty because the only defendant keeps filing the paperwork.
EXHIBITS

Every file is written for the person who pulled it. This one was written for nobody, so it is the only one you get to read without pulling. One sentence is sealed on every public copy, this one included.
Once a day. Three cards, one finding, a status. How it works.
